Gingerbread House!

08/12/2009

The creative master chefs at Dale Hill have again surpassed themselves this Christmas by creating a huge gingerbread house to be displayed in the main foyer for the charity “Children in Need”.

The gingerbread house took 6 chefs 2.5 days to create the culinary work of art using over 9KG of royal icing, 14KG of gingerbread biscuits and 4KG of sugar paste. The team at Dale hill hope to raise money via donation for this amazing feat while adding a bit of Christmas cheer to the festive season.

Its model behaviour to a tee

23/08/2009

Tiger Woods is not the only one in the golf world with a problem. Leaderboard Golf — owner of courses including Kent-based Chart Hills and Sandford Springs — has a big problem with “eye candy caddies”.

These are models/dancers trained in “golf etiquette,” who can be hired to carry clubs. According to its website, the caddies provide a “gorgeous solution for unforgettable golf days”. But Leaderboard is not convinced. After receiving complaints from members about their presence on its courses, it has decided to ban them.
Leaderboard insists it is not being a killjoy “in objecting to a service which invites men to select from a photo menu of young women”. That’s not all: “These women are often pictured in their underwear, and judged according to the merits of their responses to questions such as ‘what is your favourite body part’.” Knowledge that is not guaranteed to help your handicap.

Dale Hill Win Leaderboard Challenge

16/07/2009

At 4.20am on Tuesday the 14th July, 6 Professional Golfers (John Tolliday and Craig Howell from Dale Hill, Andrew Wild and Neil Granville from Sandford Springs and Graham Green and Charlie Hayes from the Leaderboard Driving Range) teed off for 18 holes at The Oxfordshire Golf Club on their quest to complete 99 holes of golf over the 4 centres that belong to the Leaderboard group.

Tolliday and Howell took the early lead with a level par round (playing Better Ball) completing the Oxfordshire in just under 2 hours, but whilst they set the pace in score they could not keep up with the speed of the other two groups.

Following The Oxfordshire was a 50 minute drive to the next centre, Sandford Springs Golf club, Reading, for a further 27 holes. Scores were fairly close but the Dale hill boys managed to extend their lead by a couple of shots by producing a score of 1 under for the 27 holes.

A further 2 hour drive around the M25 gave a welcome rest for the players as they made their way to Chart Hills Golf club, Kent. Completion of this 18 holes would be well over the half way mark.

John and Craig managed to shoot a score of 2 under par for Chart Hills, extending their lead by a further few shots.
Home turf was in sight after a 30 minute drive to Dale Hill, East Sussex for John  and Craig where they were to complete a further 36 holes around the Ian Woosnam Course shooting a  level par round, and finally the Dale Hill Course with a 2 under par score to complete the 99 holes in 5 under par.

Many members supported the players over the final 18 holes and there was a great atmosphere around the course and clubhouse to follow.

The Dale Hill boys managed to win the challenge with the Leaderboard Driving range in 2nd place and the Sandford Springs team coming in 3rd place, although it has to be said the Sandford team would have quite easily won a prize for completing in the least amount of time.

With the support of all the sponsors Dale Hill Managed to raise just over £3200 which will be split evenly between the Dale Hill Captains charities, Multiple Sclerosis and Muscular Dystrophy. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone concerned in the day for your sponsorship and support at the event.

The players all thoroughly enjoyed the day finishing around 9pm, and are now trying to work out how they can top the challenge for next year

4 COURSES, 99 HOLES IN 1 DAY!

15/06/2009

On Tuesday 14TH JULY 2009, 6 guys (who can only be described as mad) are going to set out at the Oxfordshire Golf Club at around 4.30am to start a golfing marathon.

They will play all the Leaderboard owned courses in one day to raise money for selected charities. Each pair will play better ball competition around the 99 holes that Leaderboard have:

18 holes at The Oxfordshire - 27 holes at Sandford Springs
18 holes at Chart Hills - 36 holes at Dale Hill

The Pairings will return a score (they must hole out) for each course. This will be recorded on a leaderboard at Dale Hill throughout the day. The team who produce the lowest score for the 99 holes will receive a trophy.

Representing Dale Hill is John Tolliday (Professional) and Craig Howell (Assistant) and the two charities they are playing for are Muscular Dystrophy (the Dale Hill Captains charity) and Multiple Sclerosis (Lady Captains charity).

John and Craig have some experience at this given they managed to play 18 holes at each of the 4 courses in one day last year, but this year decided to increase the challenge a little.

Representing Sandford Springs will be Andrew Wild (Professional and General Manager) and Neal Granville (Director of Golf), they will be playing for Sandford Springs Club charity, which is St Michaels Hospice.

Representing the Leaderboard driving range will be Graham Green (Professional and General Manager) and Charlie Hayes (Assistant). The charity they are playing for is ‘Rays of Sunshine’.

If you think that this does not sound to challenging then consider this, the 4 courses are spread over 170 miles which will make the day just that bit harder.

Craig Howell says “ the Charities selected this year are close to heart for our Captains as both of their families have been affect by these illnesses. After playing 72 holes last year and feeling shattered it would be greatly appreciated for your support to keep us going. We need your sponsorship.

We hope many people will come up to Dale Hill in the evening to support us as we finish on the Old Course. All the guys playing are really excited and keen to raise lots of money, and on a personal note I can’t wait to see the faces of the other guys when we beat them!.”

PLEASE CALL IN TO THE PRO SHOP TO SIGN UP TO SPONSOR THE DALE HILL GUYS.
PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR A NOTICE FOR A FUN EVENT HELD HERE ON THE SAME DAY FOR YOU TO PLAY IN.

The Hole In One Weekend at Dale Hill

27/03/2009

Any amateur golfer will tell you that two holes-in-one on the same weekend, on the same course equals a good go on the green.  But one weekend, one course, and three holes-in-one…now that’s the stuff of golfing legend! But that’s exactly what happened at the Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club on the 7th and 8th of March.

The course in question was the famous 6512-yard, 72 par Ian Woosnam Course, the skilful golfers all being Dale Hill members.  This unprecedented run began on the Saturday morning at the fifth, member Peter Smith finding the hole with one mighty swing, witnessed by fellow member Martin Fisk.  With onlookers rightfully impressed, Smith’s glory was then equalled by member Phil Eaton, playing on the same hole, following closely behind in a consecutive group.

With Dale Hill members and staff chalking the double act up as an unusual coincidence, jaws dropped even further when a third hole-in-one was accomplished the very next day. Rounding out a weekend of extraordinary achievements and also joined by the talismanic Martin Fisk, member Jack MacCauliffe conquered the 12th hole on the Sunday, with a single precision shot.

HOLE-IN-ONE

20/10/2008
It was six of the best for Michael Hussey after the 68-year-old recorded his sixth hole-in-one with an ace at Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club.
The 10-handicapper added to his already impressive tally on the championship Woosnam course's 130-yard par-three fifth hole where he holed out with an eight-iron. Hussey was playing in the annual Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Golf Day' which raised more than £2500 to help people with muscle debilitating diseases. Previously the Oxfordshire-man's five holes-in-one have been achieved around the world with one in Singapore another in Indonesia two at his home club Burford and one at Addington Court. Hussey said: When I hit it I could see it was straight and in line but I didn't think it would go in. There's a certain element of luck involved and it landed on the edge of the green and rolled into the hole. The event was organised by Hussey's nephew whose son suffers from muscular dystrophy and Hussey is a regular player along with around a dozen of his family. And it wasn't just the hole-in-one that Hussey was celebrating as his feat also won him the nearest-the-pin prize and contributed to him achieving the best gross score of the day 79. He added: It was a very successful day for me personally and a great day all round. We played a nice course with a nice meal and it was a very good day.
