4 COURSES, 99 HOLES IN 1 DAY!

15/06/2009

On Tuesday 14TH JULY 2009, 6 guys (who can only be described as mad) are going to set out at the Oxfordshire Golf Club at around 4.30am to start a golfing marathon.

They will play all the Leaderboard owned courses in one day to raise money for selected charities. Each pair will play better ball competition around the 99 holes that Leaderboard have:

18 holes at The Oxfordshire - 27 holes at Sandford Springs
18 holes at Chart Hills - 36 holes at Dale Hill

The Pairings will return a score (they must hole out) for each course. This will be recorded on a leaderboard at Dale Hill throughout the day. The team who produce the lowest score for the 99 holes will receive a trophy.

Representing Dale Hill is John Tolliday (Professional) and Craig Howell (Assistant) and the two charities they are playing for are Muscular Dystrophy (the Dale Hill Captains charity) and Multiple Sclerosis (Lady Captains charity).

John and Craig have some experience at this given they managed to play 18 holes at each of the 4 courses in one day last year, but this year decided to increase the challenge a little.

Representing Sandford Springs will be Andrew Wild (Professional and General Manager) and Neal Granville (Director of Golf), they will be playing for Sandford Springs Club charity, which is St Michaels Hospice.

Representing the Leaderboard driving range will be Graham Green (Professional and General Manager) and Charlie Hayes (Assistant). The charity they are playing for is ‘Rays of Sunshine’.

If you think that this does not sound to challenging then consider this, the 4 courses are spread over 170 miles which will make the day just that bit harder.

Craig Howell says “ the Charities selected this year are close to heart for our Captains as both of their families have been affect by these illnesses. After playing 72 holes last year and feeling shattered it would be greatly appreciated for your support to keep us going. We need your sponsorship.

We hope many people will come up to Dale Hill in the evening to support us as we finish on the Old Course. All the guys playing are really excited and keen to raise lots of money, and on a personal note I can’t wait to see the faces of the other guys when we beat them!.”

PLEASE CALL IN TO THE PRO SHOP TO SIGN UP TO SPONSOR THE DALE HILL GUYS.
PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR A NOTICE FOR A FUN EVENT HELD HERE ON THE SAME DAY FOR YOU TO PLAY IN.

The Hole In One Weekend at Dale Hill

27/03/2009

Any amateur golfer will tell you that two holes-in-one on the same weekend, on the same course equals a good go on the green.  But one weekend, one course, and three holes-in-one…now that’s the stuff of golfing legend! But that’s exactly what happened at the Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club on the 7th and 8th of March.

The course in question was the famous 6512-yard, 72 par Ian Woosnam Course, the skilful golfers all being Dale Hill members.  This unprecedented run began on the Saturday morning at the fifth, member Peter Smith finding the hole with one mighty swing, witnessed by fellow member Martin Fisk.  With onlookers rightfully impressed, Smith’s glory was then equalled by member Phil Eaton, playing on the same hole, following closely behind in a consecutive group.

With Dale Hill members and staff chalking the double act up as an unusual coincidence, jaws dropped even further when a third hole-in-one was accomplished the very next day. Rounding out a weekend of extraordinary achievements and also joined by the talismanic Martin Fisk, member Jack MacCauliffe conquered the 12th hole on the Sunday, with a single precision shot.

HOLE-IN-ONE

20/10/2008
It was six of the best for Michael Hussey after the 68-year-old recorded his sixth hole-in-one with an ace at Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club.
The 10-handicapper added to his already impressive tally on the championship Woosnam course's 130-yard par-three fifth hole where he holed out with an eight-iron. Hussey was playing in the annual Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Golf Day' which raised more than £2500 to help people with muscle debilitating diseases. Previously the Oxfordshire-man's five holes-in-one have been achieved around the world with one in Singapore another in Indonesia two at his home club Burford and one at Addington Court. Hussey said: When I hit it I could see it was straight and in line but I didn't think it would go in. There's a certain element of luck involved and it landed on the edge of the green and rolled into the hole. The event was organised by Hussey's nephew whose son suffers from muscular dystrophy and Hussey is a regular player along with around a dozen of his family. And it wasn't just the hole-in-one that Hussey was celebrating as his feat also won him the nearest-the-pin prize and contributed to him achieving the best gross score of the day 79. He added: It was a very successful day for me personally and a great day all round. We played a nice course with a nice meal and it was a very good day.

The ladies from Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club defeated West Sussex Golf Club 4-3 at the Dyke to capture the title for the first time in the clubs history. The final of the competition was played over 18-holes in a matchplay format on September 12. To reach the knockout stages the ladies first had to qualify from their group of five teams which consisted of Seaford Mid Sussex Cuckfield and the Dyke. After the group games they finished at the top of the table and set up a quarter final against Worthing Golf Club. The Dale Hill ladies then came face-to-face with Nevill Golf Club in the semi finals which they beat to take them to the final where they would face West Sussex. Chris Gibbons team captain said: To get through group qualifying was really tough and we were all really pleased with our achievement. To get to the final was just terrific and to come home with the trophy is amazing it just shows that all the hard work that the girls put in has paid off. David Colyer general manager at Dale Hill said: Everyone at Dale Hill was enormously proud when we heard that Chris and her team had won the county championships. After the knockout stages we really hoped they would bring the silverware home and now that it is here long may it remain in the Dale Hill trophy cabinet.
