Dale Hill Pro Newsletter - 31st March 2010
Congratulations to John Stedman who won the Virgin Qualifier on Sunday with a score of Nett 71. He will now join one of the Pros from Dale Hill to compete in the Virgin Atlantic Pro-Am regional qualifier with a chance of going to the final in Bahamas courtesy of Virgin Atlantic. It was a tough day out on the Woosie reflecting on the scores. Colin Lissenden and Richard Bevan managed a nett 72 each, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Virgin event. Thanks to everyone who competed.
When Is A Bargain A Bargain?
I went into town on my day off and walked into a shop where they were having a sale on men’s clothing. Me being one for a bargain, I looked at the rail and found a pair of jeans size 40 waist/34 leg reduced from £130.00 to £25.00 – what a bargain. I had to buy them, I could not resist, they were only £25.00, what’s £25.00 for a pair of designer jeans, nothing!!
Now I am 34 waist and 31 leg in jeans, so I bought something cheap but have I really bought a bargain?
The point I am making is if the product is not right for you then it does not matter how cheap it is, it’s not a bargain, IT’S A WASTE OF MONEY.
Over the last few weeks on Saturday mornings Craig has spent several hours on the first tee giving out our demo equipment for people to try. When assessing what equipment people have in their bags it’s clear to see that many of you have the wrong product, and when asking: “Why have you got this club?” the reply is normally: “Oh it was a bargain”.
We had a member who is about 60 years old, playing off around 20 handicap using a driver which is made for a player off around a 5 handicap. He bought the driver because it was “A BARGAIN”. Second hand cost him less than £100 and new they are £250. The person in question has possibly had some bad advice or not asked the question, “Would this suit me?”
I feel we could have helped the person get the right club, something with a softer shaft, more loft and gained more distance, and then saved him wasting his money on a club that does not help his game. In my opinion – a club that found me an extra 25 yards off the tee, whatever the price was would be a bargain.
Now I was not silly enough to buy the jeans, and I would not search the net or high street stores looking for cheap products. I would spend time getting expert advice, hitting product and seeing results before I bought.
Price is an important aspect of any sale but, like I have always said, we will always try and compete on price. Give us the chance to help us with your game, that’s what we are here for.
We have invested several thousand pounds in demo equipment, fitting carts, and training. This is all here for you to use. If you don’t want us to fit you, then we can get an appointment at one of the companies’ fitting centres, where they have launch monitors etc for an even more in-depth fitting.
Here are a few examples of customer situations over the last few days.
I was talking to a member who said he bought some golf balls the other day from a discount store and he said: “You would not be able to compete with them at the price I paid”. Turns out I was £2.00 a dozen cheaper than the “discount store”.
Another member walked in and told me he had bought a bag from elsewhere. I asked him if he had asked us about the bag before buying and he said he could not see it in the shop. It turns out I had the bag in stock and I was £5.00 cheaper than where he got it from.
I sold a Callway driver on Saturday. The customer asked me to match an internet price, after searching the net for 15 minutes I could only find it £5.00 cheaper than I had it marked up for. I matched the internet price and gave him a goody bag of Callaway product worth £70.00 free of charge, something he would not have got buying off the internet.
Don’t get sucked into buying something that is not right for you, just because of the price or because you think it’s cheap; we can give you Professional advice, and if you’re not sure about buying then we are not going to pressure you into the sale.
