Knowing Your Rules: Saving Your Score
Our favourite pastime has only 34 rules, but what percentage of club golfers do you think know all of them? Very, very few!
I’m of course referring to a recent act of sportsmanship by Brian Davis at the PGA Tour’s Heritage Classic. If you aren’t aware of what happened, Davis was in a playoff for the tournament victory against Jim Furyk when he hit his second shot on the first playoff hole down into the marshy area next to the 18th green, where his ball came to rest on some sand, surrounded by debris and some broken plants.
After watching Furyk putt down to about 4 feet, Davis decided to play his ball from the hazard, hitting his ball to around 30 feet from the hole. Once he’d played out, however, he immediately called PGA Tour official “Slugger White” over and informed him that he had touched a piece of a plant on his backswing.
Once it was determined that the plant was not attached, he was penalised two strokes for touching a loose impediment in a hazard before his stroke under rule 13.4. As a result Furyk won the tournament.
Isn’t it nice to see Tour golfers making the headlines for the right reasons again? Once again setting the bar for golfers all over the world, as well as a few other sports!
Remember, the rules aren’t there just to penalise. Knowing correct procedures can save you shots as well - if you have any questions or want to know anything about the rules of the game come and see us in the shop or click here to mail me.
Does your Household Insurance cover your Golf Equipment away from your Home? Are You Covered For Liability if You Strike another Golfer?
As a golfer, if you aren’t properly covered, these are scenarios with a potentially devastating financial result. Despite this, many golfers are unaware that their home insurance policy may not cover them adequately. That’s why I’ve teamed up with a company called CCV Sports & Leisure, so that all the readers of my newsletters - and their equipment – can get great insurance cover at competitive prices.
As part of their specialised golfer’s insurance package; “Caddysure” they will pay for the repair or replacement of lost or damaged golf equipment. It also provides personal accident benefits, cover against accidental injury to third parties or damage to their property and includes a unique “Hole-in-One” cover. Click here to read more…
