“Golf is 90% mental, and 10% mental.” This quote is attributed to Jack Nicklaus, and he knows a thing or two about golf and how to be a winner. Think about it; you’ve had a terrible few holes, you’re struggling to make it work - how do you react? Do you pull yourself together for the home stretch or do you let frustration get the better of you?
Some golfers go eerily quiet, some turn the air blue and some take it out on their equipment (a rare few have even been known to give up completely and walk off the course) and that doesn’t just extend to the amateurs. Earlier in the month, at the World Ladies Championships, a professional golfer - Japan's Yuko Mitsuka - was penalized two strokes for slow play. In frustration, she dropped her clubs and walked off the course. Not surprisingly she was hit with a fine by the Japanese Tour (a record $21,590 to be exact!) but she then took it a step further, voluntarily disqualifying herself from next 11 tournaments! Mitsuka now stands to lose month’s worth of career earnings because of one little tantrum...
Next time you’re on the course and you feel the ‘red mist’ descending just take a moment to consider your actions. Think of the mess that Mitsuka has gotten herself into, remember you don’t do this for a living, then go back to your basics, think of those around you and pull it together – it’s just a game!
To offset the recent groove rule changes, Callaway introduced two new, softer Tour balls; the Tour i(s) and the Tour i(z).
This change had a side effect; players found that the feedback off the Putter face was ‘dulled’ from the softening of the new balls... Enter Odyssey’s ‘White Ice’ insert to restore the balance; 19% firmer than its predecessor, it has been purposely designed to create the ideal feedback between Odyssey Putter and Callaway Tour ball.
If you play a Callaway Tour ball – even if you don’t – you have a great chance to experience this combination. For a limited period, if you buy a White Ice Putter you’ll receive a complimentary sleeve of Callaway’s Tour i(s) golf balls – the perfect match!
Regards,
John
