Dale Hill Pro Newsletter - 15th July 2010

Sorry I could not update you on the Leaderboard Challenge last week; I was still shattered from the event by the time I had to write the article.

Well, we did it! At 4.30am on the 5th of July 2 Professionals from all the Leaderboard centres stood on tees around the Oxfordshire Golf Club to start the Challenge. This year was slightly different; the challenge was to score as many points as possible in 13 hours of golf around the Leaderboard courses playing better ball stableford. There were some tactics involved – we at Dale Hill decided to go fairly quick, but also concentrate on playing well, as did the boys from the range. The boys from Chart and the Oxfordshire decided they would play slower but really focus on the scores, and the guys from Sandford were all out for speed.

It was clear that Sandford Springs were going to be fast completing their first 18 holes in 1 hour 26 minutes, not bad as they scored a one under par 37 points. We however took 1 hour 50 minutes and only scored 36 points, there goes the tactics out of the window.

We scored 2 under for Sandford Springs, 3 under for Chart Hills, then home ground was upon us. This is where we struggled; we gained 36 points around the Woosnam Course. With still lots of time on the clock, we then played the old course 3 times scoring 33 points, 37 points and 39 points.

We averaged each 9 holes in around 50 minutes, 7 and a half rounds of golf in a day and for the guys out there that know Craig and me well, you will confirm that 7.5 rounds of golf normally equates to about 4 months of golf for us, as we don’t play a lot.

The final total of 135 holes was 276 points. The guys from Sandford were quicker throughout the day but did tire somewhat and managed to play 140 holes but scored 270 points. The Range, Chart Hills and the Oxfordshire all played less holes and scored lower, meaning Dale Hill won the Challenge and got an extra money bonus for the Captain’s Charity.

A massive thank you to everyone involved, to all that sponsored and everyone who came up on the evening. Final total still to be confirmed but we at Dale Hill should raise between £2500 - £3000 and between all centres close to £9000.

Regards,
John
