With such promising weather during the back end of April I thought we had left our winter sorrows behind us. I was wrong and Monsoon May is now upon us! However, this weather did not deter some of our most committed members during the 3 competitions we held over the weekend.
Our first competition of the year was the Florin trophy. This sparked great interest from all the members and a field of 60 went out to brave the tough conditions. Richard Fleming came out victorious with a great score. The Men’s medal on Sunday was on course to be called off due to torrential rain all day and bitterly cold winds but we managed to get 25 soldiers out to battle the Woosie. Ron Down managed to fight the conditions to take the win!
Bank holiday Monday was unfortunately the same story on weather, with intermittent showers and a patch of hail! We held the Douglas Bader competition on the old course and a great meal was put on in the hotel after. Ann and Alan Pointer managed to swoop the prizes with a great 38 in some challenging conditions!
Across the water a young Irishman has had a great victory in the North Carolina Open, Rory McIlroy had a final round of 62 beating the course record and recording his first win on the PGA tour, putting us in a great position for the Ryder Cup this year.
The shop is now fully equipped with the summer stock so keep your eyes peeled on deals when they come up!!!
Regards,
John
