Club Championship Report
Simon Robertson produced a combined total of 151 to become the 2010 Club Champion. The competition saw a new format: played over two days with a cut after round 1 for the top 40 players to play the second day.

The pace was set by Neil Gray and Stuart Langley after day 1, both shooting scores of 75 around the Ian Woosnam Course. Ian Pether was one shot behind on 76 with Simon Robertson and Ron Down shooting 77s. Paul Russell was a further shot back on 78. Tim Hayes, defending champion for the last two years, shot 81, and later pulled out with a shoulder injury. The cut was made at 93 with all people making the cut going out early on Sunday morning around the old course.

Robertson got off to a rocky start with a double bogey down the first, and making another double bogey at the 9th, turned in 40, 5 over par for 9 holes. With Langley and Gray both turning in 37, and Pether in 38, Robertson had slipped a long way back and it looked as if it may not be his year. Paul Russell had started to make a move, and for the first 9 holes, taking 36 shots had moved him into a good position.

But Robertson, who is known for never giving up and for being one of the best putters in the club, produced a faultless back 9 with 9 straight pars to return a score of 74. With the day hotting up, Pether produced a 77, Gray was a further shot back on 78, and Langley produced a 81. Russell produced an impressive 75 but it was not enough to stop Robertson winning his first Club Championship by two shots.

Andrew Chapman returned a second round of 75; and added to his 80 from day one moved himself up the leaderboard into 5th position. With two impressive scores from Simon in the two rounds he also won the nett section of the competition with a nett score of 135. In 2nd place was Craig Dawson with scores of 72, 67 (nett), with David Cowell finishing 5th after an impressive nett 68 day 1 followed by a 71 day 2. Andrew Jenner produced a nett 66 day two, being the lowest nett score (with Simon) on day two, which moved him up the leaderboard to 12th position.

Congratulations Go to Simon Robertson for becoming the 2010 Club Champion.

Please remember that on the 5th July Craig and I with the other Pros from Leaderboard are playing our Leaderboard Challenge in aid of the Captains’ Charities. There will be a free BBQ (donations requested) for spectators to come up in the evening and support the guys on the final leg. We hope to be back at Dale Hill around 4 pm to start on the Ian Woosnam course and then on to the Old Course.

Please support the guys and if you have not already sponsored us, please do so, all money goes straight to Christopher’s Smile, the charity for children with cancer. If you would like to sponsor us, please drop me an email by clicking here and I will add you to the list.

Many thanks to everyone who supported us so far, including our Title Sponsor, Absolute Publishing, and Classic Sports Series, Lookers Mercedes for sponsoring the cars for transport, and PGB Clothing for supplying Calvin Klein clothing for the players and everyone who sponsored us. Depending on what time you wake up on Monday, think of us; by 7.30am we will have played 18 holes and will be in the car on the way to Sandford Springs. I pray for good weather.

Regards,
John
